The Team with Angelo Starr
A.K.A. The Edwin Starr Band!
THE TEAM have been around since 1982; their reputation for consistently outstanding live performance is the foundation of their success; their intimate relationship with soul music has had legendary artists perform with them; and their audience is drawn from so wide a spectrum of people as to make the demographic indefinable.
Put together by percussionist Clive ‘J.J.’ Hare and bassman Kevin Kendall, the band approached ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ vocalist Clem Curtis with a view to working together. Clem at that time did not need a band but he had a friend who did: The late, great motown artist Edwin Starr whose hits include ‘War – What is it good for’, ‘S.O.S’, ‘Eye to Eye Contact’ and ‘H.A.P.P.Y Radio’.
Since then The Team has been on the road and there are few others with such extensive performing experience. Whether for a throng of forty thousand at the now legendary V Festival in Chelmsford’s Bowl or for just twenty-three guests in the dining room of a media and premiership football tycoon; whether at 8 a.m. in a field near Aachen full of scooterists or at midnight in an opulent London hotel for the royal family; whether in session for Capital Radio or on The Jonathan Ross Show, the mantra is the same: ‘we came here to party!’ for whoever, whenever, wherever!
If you have not yet seen for yourself, the certainty is, you will know someone who has. Possibly even on one of those exhilarating occasions when The Team has been joined onstage by, for example, The Temptations, Ben E. King, Barry White or Boy George to name a few.
Together with Edwin they have been presented with awards by Blues and Soul Magazine, whose readership for two consecutive years voted them ‘UK Live Act Of The Year’; and alongside James Brown and Billy Paul have twice been honoured at the prestigious European Diamond Awards for Live Music.
With Edwin’s passing in April 2003, younger brother Angelo, an original member of The Team whose credits include Alexander O’Neal and more recently Lemar, has taken over on lead vocals. Accordingly, there is a sense of continuity but more notably, a new energy; an energy that could only be generated by dedicated and well-travelled musicians and singers, performing for years with soul greats – and soaking up the influence.

The Painkillers
Think: The Who & The Kinks and a touch of Rockabilly through to the Undertones & Vapors by way of T Rex & Slade into the Kaiser Chiefs, Green Day and the Fratellis and you get the picture
Mike & Griff’s Rock background, allied with the modern Indie input from Steve, the discerning Punk sensibilities of Tim and the eclectic tastes of Matt ensure that every number is a well-known hit. Nothing hardcore here. It’s loud, energetic and anthemic with the occasional surprise twist on a classic.
The band have played some very successful gigs over the years, and as a result they have obtained a strong local following who believe ‘The Painkillers’ have filled a gap in the live music scene with a choice and style of material not currently covered by any other band.
We call it: fun, furious and LOUD.
We’re music-loving like-minded guys, all of whom have busy working and family lives. As a result, we like to keep the band as a hobby rather than a job so we try to limit ourselves to ‘a gig a month’. This keeps it fresh and interesting! Even 80s legend Howard Jones watched and liked us!!!
More to follow.

Sounds Like Silver
SOUNDS LIKE SILVER first began in April 2016 when Ryan Howell approached Daniel Cullen hoping to form a pop-punk band. Dan agreed and they put up an advert for a drummer. Young Lewis Bond applied and immediately impressed Dan and Ryan at the first practice at the Athena Rooms near Bridgwater.
However, after two practice sessions the band came to a conclusion they required a fourth member to become the band’s lead guitarist. Lewis Poole applied and later filled the vacancy.
The band is based in Somerset and has impressed with every gig that has come it’s way due to the hard work from each band member in order to perfect their sound.
Skimmity Hitchers
What Cider’s Supposed to Sound Like!
Rising from the cider soaked floors of Dorset’s back street boozers, the Skimmity Hitchers now roam the full girth of the West Country and beyond. Bringing their dry and fruity blend of Scrumpy & Western music to venues, festivals and fairs, these scrumpy swillin’ reprobates appeal to young and old, and everyone from folkies to cider punks, beardy badgers to shifty blaggers.
The ‘Hitchers blend razor sharp parodies and original material with a raucous stage show, spontaneous audience interaction, cheeky banter and general cider shenanigans…
In their quest to bring proper job drinkin’ music to the masses the band have stolen the show at events of all types and sizes. Highlights include Camp Bestival, Boomtown Fair, Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and headline slots at the Great Dorset Steam Fair and OutCider Festival, but there’s simply nowhere these four fruity fellas can’t instigate a good time.
They have Christened children, tamed hordes of hairy bikers and even serenaded Tony Benn with his own personal number. Oh, and believe it or not they’re the first Scrumpy & Western band EVER to play the USA
having toured Oregon, Washington and Vancouver BC in February 2016.
Black Anchors
BLACK ANCHORS are from the windswept North Devon coast in south-west England. Blending influences across genres from punk rock to reggae to make their own brand of rock and roll.
Formed in September 2017 while sat in their local coffee shop by singer-songwriter Scott Xander Linn and bassist James Fidge. The line up is completed by Billy Hammett on drums.
Although we’ve only been a band since September we’ve already recorded a whole album worth of demos in preparation for the recording of our debut EP which is being recorded at Momentum Studios in Plymouth in January. Along with a busy recording schedule, we’ve also already supported The Kris Barras Band, Gaz Brookfield and played shows at Exeter’s The Cavern and Plymouth’s The Junction. We’ve also supported legendary Chicago punk band Flatfoot 56 at a packed out show in Exeter! 2018 is already shaping up nicely, we’ve been asked to play Exeter’s John Gandy’s Battle of the bands competition in January which is highly regarded within the local scene , along with a scouting session at The Fleece in Bristol. February has us playing two local headliners which we are tying in with the filming for our debut single with the very talented film maker Sam Kinsella!
